PG and VG Vape Juice November 09 2017, 0 Comments
You’ve probably noticed on your bottle of vape juice there is a number followed by the letters PG and VG. PG (Propylene glycol) and VG (Vegetable Glycerin) are the FDA approved, base ingredients of your vape liquid.
So, what is PG and VG and why is it in your vape juice?
PG liquid is colourless and has previously been used in cosmetics, e-juice and food production. PG is much thinner than VG.
VG is an organic liquid made from vegetable oil. This product is sweet and thick and is also used in cosmetics, food production and now, e-juice.
Why should you care?
Vape juice can be made up entirely of either one of the ingredients. However, a mixture is best advised. The ratio of PG vs VG depends on what you want from your vape experience.
If you’re after that throat hit then you’ll be best suited to go for a PG based vape juice. You’ll also get a smoother flavour than in the VG juices.
If for you it is all about the vapor then you’ll need a juice with a higher VG ratio.
If you’re heating up your device before you vape then you will want an e-liquid that has a high VG as this can withstand a higher tempreture can PG based juice.
Now, let’s look at the differences of PG and VG vape juices so you can decide what is right for you next time you’re in store or online.
VG is thicker and can produce dense clouds. One issue is that your juice is likely to build up on your wicks meaning that you might have to do a little more cleaning. A juice with a higher VG ratio is best used with a rebuildable atomiser.
The wick absorbs PG much faster as it is a thinner liquid. This means that there is less gunk build up and less need to clean your device. If you want to take a look at higher PG eliquids, click here.
Mostly you will find companies mix their juices with a PG:VG ratio to give you the best bits of both ingredients. You will find standard ratios of PG and VG in vape juices are 50:50, 60:40 and 70:30.
