Can I Vape on the Plane?

Will vaping on the plane land you in trouble?

Becky Spencer-Davies, 05/06/2019

With holidays coming up you might be wondering, can I vape on the plane? This certainly is a question for those going long haul. If you are heading to America, Thailand, Australia or somewhere further from the UK you’ll no doubt be concerned how you’ll manage without your trusty vape. In UK airports you are unable to vape, this will mean that you’ll be going longer than just your flight time without a puff.

How do I find out if I can vape on the plane?

Right here. No, you cannot vape on the plane. At all. Not even a cheeky under your coat stealth vape, or a nip to the loo. If you are caught vaping on the plane you will face a hefty fine, not a great way to start or finish your holiday.

Will vaping on a plane get me arrested?

It depends on the context. If you have been found to tamper with the smoke detector or refused to comply when the cabin crew asks you to stop then you will get more than a fine. You could be arrested and removed from the flight. Depending on the country you are flying to and the incident you could be arrested and put in jail when you get to your destination.

Could I use a pod or discrete vape on the plane?

So you might not be blowing huge clouds but you are still breaking the law and risking a fine. However stealth you think you are being with your pod vape device you might not get your suspicious behaviour past the cabin crew.

What should I do if I can’t vape on the plane?

It’s frustrating, we get it. But gone are the days when you could smoke on a plane. The best thing to do to get your nicotine fix is to use nicotine patches, gum or lozenges. These long flights are perfect for nicotine replacement therapy!

How do I avoid the temptation of plane vaping?

You are not able to store your device in your hold luggage, you have to take it on board with you. We suggest that you store your vape device and e-liquids in your hand luggage in the overhead locker. This way you avoid temptation and any possible pocket leaks.

Where can I find more information?

Your airline should be up to date on their website with rules regarding smoking and the use of e-cigarettes. If you want a second opinion then check with the airline, but we are pretty sure that the answer to can I vape on the plane, is no. Read British Airways vaping policy here.
