What are Terpenes?

Do terpenes matter?

Becky Spencer-Davies, 28/0/2019

Terpenes are aromatic compounds found within plant matter of cannabis, as well as other plants and herbs. These compounds are responsible for the different scents of cannabis strains, as well as the varying effects. There are a wide range of terpenoids found within the cannabis plant, but the main ones are myrcene limonene, pinene and caryophyllene.

Why terpenes?

Terpenes are similar to cannabinoids in terms of their chemical structure and they can have some interesting effects as well as their own medical benefits. To name a few as an example, beta caryophyllene is a non cannabinoid which activates the CB2 receptors, and is known as an anti inflammatory. Then there is Limonene which shows promise as an antidepressant. Terpenes are what gives cannabis its uniqueness and different effects.
